Title: Casting Thread
Post by: Lynn1 on August 14, 2010, 04:59:58 pm
(This thread will be bookmarked on our "Fine Threads" page so it can be found easily.)

This is the thread for revealing who is leaving and/or joining the show, as long as it doesn't give away storylines!  If you want to share info. about upcoming storylines, please put it on the spoiler board (http://thecolonnaderoom.smfforfree3.com/index.php/board,2.0.html) instead.  Thanks!

Here's a link (http://www.soapcentral.com/yr/news/2010/0805-west.php) to SoapCentral's article, "Maura West Joins Y&R As Diane Jenkins."  She's the lady who recently won Best Leading Actress at the Daytime Emmys for her portrayal of Carly on ATWT.

From the August 24, 2010 issue of Soap Opera Digest (pp. 14-15):

Comings And Goings

Who's Coming:
Susan Seaforth Hayes (Joanna Manning):   Joanna shows up in Genoa City on August 17 for a not-so-happy reunion with Lauren (Tracey E. Bregman).  "The story should be told that Susan was in the middle of a European vacation and flew all night to come do this," praises Bregman.  "Then she literally got off stage and went to the airport to fly back to her vacation.  She not only didn't want anybody else to play Joanna, but she said she wanted to be there for me, and I appreciated that so much.  I wish we had more time together, but I just really have to give her props for going out of her way."

Maura West (Diane Jenkins):   ATWT's Emmy-winning Carly will first air in October as Jack and Victor's ex.  The role was last played by Susan Walters.

From the September 27, 2010 issue of CBS Soaps In Depth (p. 17):

Christine's Done!
Sigh.  It was nice while it lasted.  A rep for Lauralee Bell (Christine, Y&R) confirms that the actress who plays Genoa City's favorite female legal eagle has wrapped up her stint.  A final air date hasn't been announced as Y&R does not comment on casting rumors or storyline speculation.

Back In Action
Beau Kazer brings Brock back to Genoa city on Thursday, September 16, and Friday, September 17.  And though the reason for his return is a sad one, the actor was happy to come back.  "It's like I never left.  I come back, and it's like nothing has ever changed.  Time is but an illusion," Kazer says.  Not only that, but he got to meet his new on-screen brother!  "[Stephen Nichols, Tucker] is a very nice gentleman, a committed actor," he adds.

From the September 28, 2010 issue of Soap Opera Digest (pp. 4-5):

Another Ex-ATWT Star To Y&R

Y&R has tapped Aussie hunk Paul Leyden (ex-Simon, ATWT) to play the mysterious Blake, who first appears on October 6.  "I got a phone call from my agent about this part," shares the actor.  "I really enjoyed working in this genre and this sounded like a fantastic opportunity, so I said, 'Let's do it.' "

Leyden didn't even have to audition.  "It was really flattering that they had so much faith in me--hopefully, I don't disappoint anyone," he smiles.  "I live in Los Angeles now and each time I did a stint on ATWT, I really enoyed going back to New York, but now I'm a lot more established here--especially with a writing career--so getting Y&R is wonderful."

Although he's already begun taping, Leyden knows little about Blake.  "I was given bits and pieces on character stuff, but to be honest, I was more excited about acting.  A lot of my work right now is writing, so it's hard for me to commit to things as an actor, even though I love acting.  Plus, I was really interested in being on a show that's at the top of its game.  After being on ATWT and watching it struggle, it's really nice to be on a show that runs like a smooth machine.  That was a big lure."

Leyden will also be reunited professionally with his former on-screen love, Maura West (ex-Carly, ATWT), who debuts the same week (as Diane Jenkins).  Although both actors were present on his first work day, they have yet to meet again.  "I only saw Maura on the monitors around the studio.  I didn't get to see her personally and say hi because we were on different shooting schedules," he explains.  "We've been exchanging text messages since she's been out here, trying to catch up.  I was very excited for her and she'll kill it [as Diane].  I'm really looking forward to seeing her again."

But Leyden has already met up with another former co-star.  "I ran into Daniel Goddard [Cane] in the makeup room!" he reports.  "I worked with him back in Australia on a TV show called BEASTMASTER.  He played the beastmaster and ran around in a loincloth.  I played a guest role and I was villain to his hero.  It was great to see him.  I think I'm really going to like it here."

From the October 11, 2010 issue of CBS Soaps In Depth (pp. 14-15):

J.T.'s Leaving!

As Y&R's Thad Luckinbill (J.T.) prepares to exit, real-life wife Amelia Heinle (Victoria) opens up about his departure from the top-rated daytime soap.

Luckinbill joined Y&R back in 1999 as bad boy J.T., who reformed thanks to the love of good women like Colleen, Mac and Victoria.  And though he's had a long run, the actor will be exiting Genoa City soon.  "He is not renewing his contract," Heinle shares with In Depth.

But the actress is excited, because now Luckinbill will have the opportunity to pursue primetime roles with more vigor, and considering how many parts he got while he was still at Y&R, the sought-after actor will have no trouble with that.  Luckinbill, who is appearing on CSI: LAS VEGAS on Thursday, October 7, has done double duty during much of his Y&R tenure.  He recurred on the sitcom 8 SIMPLE RULES and appeared on NIP/TUCK, GHOST WHISPERER and JAG, to name a few.

"It's a blessing in disguise," Heinle declares.  "He's never been in this position before.  [He] is going to grow as a person and as an actor.  I hope he gets a cop show!  He's done guest roles on primetime because he was working on Y&R. Now that he has nothing holding him back, you just wait--he's going to [succeed even more].  I know it.  He's going to be so happy that this has happened."

So what does Luckinbill's exit mean for Clementine Ford, who plays on-screen love interest Mac?  It's possible that if J.T. packs his bags, she'll leave town, too.  But considering the long history Mackenzie has with so many Genoa City residents, she could easily stick around.  Y&R doesn't comment on casting, actors' contracts or storyline, but we'll keep you posted on Ford's status.

From the October 19, 2010 issue of Soap Opera Digest (p. 5):

Two Y&R Stars Out!  More To Come?

Y&R has confirmed that Thad Luckinbill (J.T.) and Clementine Ford (Mackenzie) have been let go.  "They weren't surprised at all," says a co-star.  "Their characters haven't really been doing anything story-wise, so Thad and Clementine were pretty much expecting this."

Which is why there are no hard feelings from the actors.  "It's not because there were any contract disagreements or that the show was unhappy with their performances," assures an insider.  "The truth is, there are way too many cast members and simply not enough air time or story to go around.  Since J.T. and Mac are a couple, it just made sense that they be written out together.  Everyone here loves Thad and Clementine, and there's a very nice farewell party planned for them."

Of course, the already-overcrowded situation reached critical mass with the recent additions of Maura West (Diane), Paul Leyden (Blake) and Michael Badalucco (Hogan), which means more firings could be on the horizon.  "Just releasing two actors is not going to improve things here," reports a setside source.  This cast needs to be a lot leaner, so I'm guessing that more uncomfortable decisions have to be made.  This is a very tight-knit bunch and nobody wants to see anyone go.  It's not going to be easy."

Especially when Y&R execs continue to eye the bounty of unemployed soap stars for other possible roles.  "With the cancellation of ATWT, there's more daytime actors than ever to choose from," points out another backstager.  "It's very tempting to snap some of them up for new characters or recasts, but Y&R really needs to hold back now and deal with what they already have."

Luckinbill and Ford's last air date is set for November 5.

Returning

Watch out, Lauren!  The diabolical Daisy is headed back to Y&R's Genoa City.  Yvonne Zima, who portrayed the character from October 2009 through May 2010, returns on Oct. 28.  When last seen, Daisy was fleeing town after a kidnapping plot involving Lauren and Jana went awry and Lauren shot her Aunt Sarah dead.  Daisy vowed she would be back someday--just as her mother, Sheila, would have wanted.  Well, that day is nigh.

Here's an article (http://michaelfairmansoaps.com/news/breaking-news-tristan-rogers-joins-yr/2010/10/25/) at MichaelFairmanSoaps.com about Tristan Rogers joining Y&R as a new character named Colin.  (He used to play Robert Scorpio on GH.)  I'm excited about him joining the show, but not so excited about the story.  Speculation is that he'll be part of Cane's cattle mafia storyline.  He'll start airing Dec. 8th.

Title: Re: Casting Thread

From the November 16, 2010 issue of Soap Opera Digest (p. 13):

Tristan Rogers To Y&R

Tristan Rogers (ex-Scorpio, GH) will begin airing on December 8 as a mysterious stranger named Colin.  "Truth of the matter, the real clincher for this [is] I think they figured I could do a passable job on the accent," cracks the soap vet, who will work with fellow Aussies Daniel Goddard (Cane) and Paul Leyden (Blake).  "I mean, I never took any interviews on it and it basically came down to a conversation between my agent and somebody at Y&R.  I was ecstatic."

The role is very different from his superspy GH alter ego, Rogers reports.  "He's a charming chap with a really vicious underlying mode to him, so to speak.  This guy is very much in your face.  He's not a person who's going to be intimidated easily, if at all.  Playing a baddie is always appealing from an actor's standpoint."

The role is recurring, but Rogers is happy to stick around.  "There's a lot of ways that this character can be sliced and diced and that includes the storyline, as well," he says.  "Y&R is all about families in a much more focused way than some other soaps and it's all about the problems that coexist and happen and unravel in those families and this one is no different, except that the stakes may be a little higher.  I think that we have a lot of space here to really expand this one and do some really interesting things.  It's up to the writers, whether they choose to do that or not."

Comings And Goings

Who's Going
Eric Braeden (Victor Newman):  Don't panic!  Braeden will only be away form the show temporarily.  According to his publicist, the actor will take a three-week leave to undergo a surgical procedure and recuperate.  At press time, a last air date was not available, but a setside source reveals that Victor will be back in Genoa City "before the audience even notices his absence."

Who's Staying
Emily O'Brien (Jana Hawkes Fisher):  According to a show insider, the actress has inked a new multiyear contract.

From the December 28, 2010 issue of Soap Opera Digest (p. 12):

GL Alum To Y&R

Melissa Hayden (ex-Bridget, GL) who was last seen on-screen for GL's 2009 finale, will return to daytime on January 7 when she makes an appearance in Genoa City as Agnes.  "It was really fun," Hayden shares.  "[Co-Executive Producer Paul Rauch] was over at GL [as EP] during my last couple of years there, so it was really nice of him to have me come over.  I so appreciate him.  And the Bells, of course, are fabulous.  I haven't done any of the Bell shows, so it was wonderful."

The actress, who taped her scenes on November 23, loved being on the Y&R set, but, she admits, "I was nervous going in!  It was a lot of people I don't know, but I knew I was doing okay when the camera guy goes, 'Oh, I like you!'  I was like, 'Oh, my God.  The camera guy likes me!  I'm in!'  That just made my day."

The show is hush-hush about the storyine surrounding her appearance, but Hayden offers, "It's kicking something off.  It's going to be meaningful when it happens."  And she hopes it leads to more appearances in the future. "I'm just excited for any opportunity."

Revolving Door

In:
Melissa Hayden (ex-Bridget, GL) joins Y&R as Agnes on Jan. 7, in a very hush-hush storyline.  Stage, film and prime-time television actress Ellen Green  first appears in the recurring role of Primrose that same day.  "With a surprising link to the past, Primrose's arrival in Genoa City brings unexpected joy to Billy and Victoria," teases a Y&R spokesperson.

Back:
Sources say that Lauralee Bell  is reprising her role as Y&R's crack attorney Christine.  Bell is expected to return later this month.  The actress was last seen on Y&R in August 2010.  Meanwhile, Thom Bierdz (Phillip) is also reportedly making a return to Y&R in February.  Y&R reminds us that it's the show's policy not to comment on casting rumors.

Last week, we hinted that a popular leading man could be on his way out.  We were referring to Daniel Goddard (Cane, Y&R), which TV Guide Canada's Web site has reported as a done deal, adding that the character will be killed off next month.  Co-Head Writer Scott Hamner offered what could be construed as a glimmer of hope that Goddard is sticking around when Cane and Lily's story heats up in February.  "We're not abandoning their story," says the scribe.  "We're taking it to a whole new level."

BREAKING CASTING NEWS: Walter Fauntleroy will be cast as Nate Hastings

Dr. Olivia Winters' (Tonya Lee Williams) son is returning to Y&R and he's all grown up. Actor Walter Fauntleroy has been cast in the role of Nate Hastings, previously played by Bryant Jones in 2003. The character's storyline hasn't yet been revealed, but Nate returns to the canvas on February 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11.

Y&R's Bell:  Will She Stay Or Go?

Even Lauralee Bell (Christine) is surprised that her latest gig on Y&R (which started on January 13) had lasted this long.  "I didn't expect to get [air] dates in February, so it's much more than I expected, but I'm thrilled" smiles the actress.  "Usually, Maria [Arena Bell, executive producer/head writer] asks, 'Are you free for another couple of days?'  As soon as I hear it's with Nina, Paul and Ronan, I go, 'Okay.'  I've been shooting with another project, so we're having to talk back and forth, but as long as we can make this work, it's all good.  I get very nice letters from fans, but I feel that for every person who says they love that I'm back, there's someone going, 'Ugh!  Goody two-shoes is back.' "

Even though Christine has been successfully integrated into Genoa City again, Bell isn't ready to sign on the dotted line.  "There's a couple of things that I'm pushing forward, so I need to be open for other things right now and after I get through that, we'll see.  There's a two-and-a-half week break because I needed to take care of things, but come March and April, I'm fully open to discuss more dates.  I love being here."

From the April 11, 2011 issue of CBS Soaps In Depth (p. 13):

Teen Invasion!

Break out the swimsuits, because it looks like the kids will be back in time for summer in Genoa City!  The new teen scene centers around Paul's son, Rick, who is now 18 years old.  The character is described as "darkly handsome, moody, a little vulnerable and a little dangerous."

Joining Heather's little brother are Hunter and Selena.  Hunter's "a little shy and super-sweet.  A peacemaker... she is full of optimism [and] always gives people the benefit of the doubt."

Meanwhile, Selena is described as a Latina teen who is "an overachiever, always striving for perfection.  When she is not hitting he books, she is trying to be a normal teenager and fit in with her peers, even if it takes a little effort to get her to have fun."

All are contract roles, and they start taping in mid-April.  At press time, there was no word from the show on casting.

Emily O'Brien (Jana) has been let go from Y&R.  She joined the show in 2006.  It was explained to O'Brien that the show wants to focus on the core families.  "Jana's one of the few characters who isn't connected to one of the families," she points out.  O'Brien taped her final appearance on March 31.  "I don't know when my last show will air, but a lot will be happening with Jana," she teases.

Genie is coming to Y&R. Way cool! I was a huge GH fan back in the day. I started watching it in '77 and love Laura Weber. However, I was not a Luke and Laura fan. I was a Laura and Scotty fan. I loved those two together an d was really upset when Gloria Monty decided to team Laura with Luke.

From the May 24, 2011 issue of Soap Opera Weekly (p. 3):

Revolving Door

Out?
With Tucker seriously injured in an auto accident, is his portrayer, Stephen Nichols, about to take a hiatus from Y&R?  "This was not about writing him out for vacation," explains co-head writer Scott Hamner.  "It was written purely from the point of view of dramatic storytelling and changing all the dynamics surrounding the fight for Jabot, the control of Tucker's company and the emotional ties between people who are going to suddenly find themselves polarized."  But the question remains, will Nichols be absent from Y&R?  Hamner teases, "There is definitely a 'tune in' factor to see how it all plays out."

In!
Erica Gimpel, who played Coco on the '80s TV series Fame, appears as Y&R's Detective Mauro, beginning May 16.  It is a recurring role.

Gimpel joines a notable list of Fame cast members who have also appeared on Y&R:  Nia Peeples (ex-Nicole) played Karen from 2007-09.  Stephanie Williams, a dancer on the early seasons of Fame, starred as Y&R's Amy Lewis from 1983-88.  Regarding Gimpel, co-head writer Scott Hamner shares, "We sometimes try to find people who viewers will recognize.  We're all about the retro!"

Comings And Goings

Who's Coming:
Jeff Branson (Ronan Malloy):   Look for the MIA actor to return to Genoa City.

Jerry Douglas (John Abbott):  Not only will the late patriarch be paying visits to his children, Jack, Ashley, and Billy during their times of need on June 14, but John will also have a touching encounter with old pal Katherine.

Kim Hawthorne (Judge Welchert):   She presides over Lucy's custody hearing on June 16 and 17.

Brandon Molale (Rogers):  So how did this character get his name?  Maybe because his boss is Colin, played by Tristan Rogers.  The henchman appears on June 13.

Tonya Lee Williams (Dr. Olivia Winters):   Olivia returns on June 14.

Who's Going:
Maura West (Diane Newman):   In a surprise move, ATWT's Emmy-winning vet has been let go.  West first aired in October 2010.  A final air date has not been announced.

Ins & Outs

Adam's Staying
Good news, Michael Muhney (Adam, Y&R) fans!  A source close to the set tells us that the actor recently singed a multi-year deal with the sudser!

On The Way In
Y&R's Michael better stock up on aspirin, because his little sis, Eden, is coming home!  Jessica Heap debuts in the contract role on Tuesday, June 28.  Her prior credits include Sinners & Saints and Battle: Los Angeles.  When Eden returns, will she reunite with ex-boyfriend Noah?  Stay tuned!

Casting Call
Y&R is casting another contract role!  The character, currently named Avery, is a lawyer in her early 30s.  She is "a champion for human rights and the underdog [and has] founded a wrongful convictions program."  Hmm, could she offer poor Sharon some assistance with her murder rap?  At press time, the role had not been cast.

From the August 2, 2011 issue of Soap Opera Digest (p. 5):

Jessica Collins On Soap Return

"I've always said that I was open to coming back to daytime but it had to be, as with my other work choices, for something I would really want to do," shares Jessica Collins (ex-Dinah Lee, LOVING), who airs this week as Y&R's high-powered attorney, Avery Bailey Clark.  "Y&R called me about playing Avery and when I read the part, I was immediately interested in the character.  I started thinking what I could bring to the role and I got really excited about the idea of playing her.  The timing was right because I was available.  It just fell into place.  And I knew that this would be a good fit for me.  It was something I hadn't really played before.  I like that she's a little on the scrappy side and I knew I would be challenged by the role."

Although she's portrayed a legal eagle before, on TRU CALLING ("She was a mess and a major cokehead"), Collins admires her new soap persona.  "She's a tough cookie for sure," smiles the actress.  "She's an attorney who has dedicated her life to righting the wrongs of the system.  She's not in it for the money and she's certainly not a glamorous lawyer.  She's more of a broad."

You can expect Avery to stick around even after she helps out her new client, Sharon.  "This is not a short-term run," assures Executive Producer/Head Writer Maria Arena Bell.  "Avery is going to be a really interesting and pivotal character.  We're not only going to find out who she is as a lawyer, but also who she is as a woman.  Jessica is a terrific actress and there's going to be some really big surprises along the way with Avery."

Collins, who already has an on-set pal at Y&R in former LOVING co-star Amelia Heinle (Victoria; ex-Steffi), is looking forward to an extended encore in daytime.  "I've been approached before by other soaps and it was either I wasn't right for the part or it wasn't the right time, but I always saw myself going back to daytime at some point," she affirms.  "And it's so emotional for me, seeing what's happening with the other soaps and will they be around?  It's such a wonderful medium and I didn't want to miss being a part of it again."

From the August 9, 2011 issue of Soap Opera Digest (pp. 4-5):

Branson Back On Y&R

"Ronan is a great role," declares Jeff Branson, who is reprising the part of the moody FBI agent--and Nina's son--this week.  "I had a lot of fun with the character the last time around.  So when [Executive Producer/Head Writer] Maria Bell and I talked again and I heard what would be going on and who I would be playing with, that made it more and more enticing for me to come back.  Timing is everything, and the timing was right."

Thanks to Bell's patience.  "When Maria first came to me, I had some other projects going on," explains Branson.  "There were three or four things in the way of us having a clear conversation about a start date.  They wanted me to start earlier than when I actually come on, but I didn't want to jerk anybody around so I told Maria, "If you can push it back and let me do this film [the soon-to-be-released thriller Monika], I'll make it up to you when I get back."  So, it all worked out."

When we last saw Ronan in February, he just had a life-saving partial liver transplant (donated by his little brother, Chance), then slipped out of town without telling anyone good-bye.  (Christine would later find out that Malloy had requested a transfer).  "I think there's even more mystery with him this time," Branson enthuses.  "He comes back for something in particular, but of course, there's a lot of people he's got to answer to.  They want to know what happened and where did he go, but he's not giving up anything.  There's an endless amount of deflection from him.  There's a reason behind it."

For his previous run, Branson didn't sign a contract, and he hedges when asked if that's the case again.  "I don't know how much I should be saying on that, so you'll have to stay tuned," he shares.  "Right now, it's exactly how I like it and Maria is willing to work with me.  At the end of the day, if you're on a canvas too long, there are too many mouths to feed and you're not going to work after a while.  Your storyline goes stale and you're going to be pushed to the back.  I'm not saying it's all about me, but you do this for a reason.  You want the experience and you want to tell the stories, so if I come in for these little bits of time, the story is pretty potent.  Then I don't get bored and hopefully the fans don't, either.  To me, it's a win/win."

From the August 15, 2011 issue of CBS Soaps In Depth (p. 11):

Dru Calling?

Is it time for Drucilla to make her way back to Genoa City?

According to former portrayer Victoria Rowell, it is.  The actress tweeted, "I recently had two meetings at Sony, so let's pray and believe Drucilla will be cresting that Genoa city cliff any time now."  And for those of you skeptics that think the meetings were non-Y&R-related, Rowell confirmed that the purpose was indeed a Drucilla return.  As for the show's response, it's Y&R policy not to comment on rumors or casting.

However, one person commenting is Debbi Morgan (Angie, AMC), who begins taping at Y&R this fall.  The actress took to her official Web site to dispel the theories that she is a recast for Lily's late mama.  "For those who have speculated about the possibility of my taking over the role of [Drucilla]... I can tell you absolutely not!...  As far as I'm concerned, Victoria Rowell is simply irreplaceable as Drucilla," she wrote.

So who will Morgan be playing?  Eveyrone is keeping mum for now, but co-headwriter Scott Hamner promises viewers a good story.  "The level of excitement about Debbi coming on is off the charts," the scribe tells Soaps In Depth.  "We're terribly excited about the stories she'll be playing in."

Comings And Goings

Coming:
Peter Porte (Ricardo "Ricky" Williams): The son of Paul (Doug Davidson) and crazy Isabella (last played by Eva Longoria) was born in 2002 and raised by his mother's parents in Los Angeles following Isabella's incarceration in 2003 for trying to kill Christine (Lauralee Bell).  Porte's first air date is set for September 13.  "It happened really fast," reports Davidson.  "I read with four young actors for the role.  Peter got the job on a Wednesday and started working the following Friday."

Temporary Goings:
To dispel any rumors that Genie Francis (Genevieve) is out, a Y&R spokesperson announced that the actress will be in Canada for three weeks to shoot the second sequel to the Hallmark Channel movie THE NOTE.  This means that Genevieve will be briefly missing form the canvas but will soon return.

Just when you think Deacon's gone for good, the slimy bartender pops back up again!  In Depth caught up with portrayer Sean Kanan, who says he recently taped two episodes.  There's no word on air dates yet, but expect to see him sometime in November.  Hmm... could it be a coincidence that Deacon resurfaces right around the time Melody Thomas Scott's Nikki is expected back in Genoa City?  Kanan won't say for sure, but he's thrilled about the possibilites.  "It's tremendous that Melody is coming back," he grins.  "I'm looking forward to working with Mel again and mixing it up with [Eric Braeden, Victor]."  Sounds like must-see TV to us!

Where's Chelsea?

What's the deal with Melissa Claire Egan (Annie, AMC) and her MIA new alter ego, Y&R's Chelsea?

Like us, you were probably pumped when you learned that Egan would join her former AMC cohort, Debbi Morgan (Angie; Y&R's Harmony) in Genoa City.  And her addition made us even more excited when we learned she'd be sharing scenes with her former Pine Valley bro, Billy Miller (Richie, Y&R's Billy).  But though her mysterious new character debuted in mid-November, we've seen nothing of her since.  What gives?

No, Chelsea hasn't disappeared for good, but it did make sense for the show to reunite star-crossed lovers Billy and Victoria before bringing in trouble.  Now that the duo are back on track, look for Egan to reappear on Monday, January 2.  (We hope Billy's New Year's resolution isn't smooth sailing with his wife.)  Egan, who is very excited for the upcoming story, teases, "She comes on with an agenda--it's going to be juicy!"

A popular hillbilly is coming to Genoa City!

EW has learned exclusively that a former star from CBS’ The Dukes of Hazzard will join The Young and the Restless beginning Feb. 7. And the actor is…

Catherine Bach!

Best known for paying Daisy Duke, Bach will join the daytime sudser as Anita, the scheming mother of Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan). Her first day on the set is Jan. 10.

Bach appeared on Dukes from 1979-1985 and is best remembered for sporting those trademark high-cut jean shorts. Remember her Daisy Duke poster? It sold millions.

From the February 27, 2012 issue of CBS Soaps In Depth (p. 10):

Darnell Checks In!

Y&R may hae given AMC fans yet another reason to tune in by hiring Darnell Williams (ex-Jesse), but don't be so sure a reunion of ABC supercouple Jesse and Angie (played by Harmony's portrayer, Debbi Morgan) is written in the stars.

"We have a role that was made for him," co-headwriter Scott Hamner beams.  "It's just a coup as far as everybody [here] is concerned that he's joined the cast."  The long-awaited day for Williams' debut--as a character named Sarge--is Monday, February 20.

As for Morgan, she recently asked her Twitter followers whom they preferred Harmony with:  Neil, Tucker or Williams' new character.  And after an overwhelming amount of support for Devon's bioparents, Morgan tweeted, "I see a lot of you out there are feeling a Harmony/Tucker pairing... As viewers, you can always express your desires to Y&R's producers and writers."  She then wrote, "Speaking as Debbi, I'd have to say I agree with you."

When fans expressed the opinion that the show shouldn't try to recreate Jesse and Angie, or at least not right away, Morgan responded:  "Everyone knows Darnell is my boo, but you took the words out of my own mouth... My sentiments exactly."  So will the powers that be listen to the fans?

Of course, whether or not Hope will be able to help Adam remains to be seen.  "She really did feel it was in his best interest," Coleman insists of Hope's decision to keep Adam away from Victor.  "Had she lived, I think she would have questioned those decisions."

As for Adam's trip down Memory Lane in Kansas this week, Coleman remains mum on the details but teases, "I think the audience will be pleasantly surprised with what transpires."

Watch Out, Nikki!

Kyle's back, and he's not your fan!

"Kyle's come back to town without an agenda," portrayer Blake Hood previews of his debut on Friday, April 27.  "He's come back to be close to his dad and move on with his life.  He wants to live a happy, full life, and he just happens to have stepped into this situation where the woman who killed his mother is still here [and in his father's life]."

Hood says that Y&R head honcho Maria Arena Bell brought him up to speed on Kyle's drama-filled backstory--from his controversial conception to the horrific death of his TV mom.  "Maria gave me a copy of the episode where [his] mother is killed," Hood says.  "I got to watch that and figure out exactly what happened."

And it's a good thing Hood's prepared--because right away, Kyle has to deal with the fact that his mom's killer is his dad's new girlfriend!  Says co-headwriter Scott Hamner:  "For him to be in the same room with Nikki is very difficult for Kyle!"

Don't worry, Jill fans--Jess Walton isn't leaving forever.  She's just taking a six-month break, because her son and his wife are having a baby!  "[Headwriter and executive producer] Maria [Arena] Bell was very understanding of all this and kindly gave me the time I need!" she explained on Twitter.

Walton last taped earlier this month, so look for her exit soon.  Coincidentally (or not), Tristan Rogers (Colin) also happened to be taping around that time.  "This is a two-part thing," he explains.  "I go back briefly to set the scene, and then you don't see me again for quite a while."

Could his return coincide with Walton's?  It seems likely, and, in fact, a little birdie tells us that's exactly what happens!  So you'll see Colin and Jill together again... you'll just have to wait a bit!

Here is a TV Guide exclusive:

Her world just turned — big time! Daytime Emmy-winning fan fave Jennifer Landon, daughter of the late TV icon Michael Landon, has won the role of legal eagle Heather Stevens on CBS' The Young and the Restless. She begins shooting the soap May 2 and hits the air June 7. Back in 2005, Landon famously nabbed a one-day gig on As The World Turns and parlayed her offbeat character, Gwen Norbeck, into a three-year deal and three back-to-back Emmys.

At Y&R, Landon will replace another Emmy winner, Eden Riegel (formerly Bianca on All My Children), who played Heather for 18 months only to be ousted last year in a surprise cast purge. When last seen, Heather's reputation and career were in ruin after photos of her drunkenly kissing scumbag Adam Newman were posted on the Restless Style Magazine website — photos taken by her very own brother, Ricky! She fled Genoa City in shame. Is she back with a vengeance?

What??? Eileen Davidson was fired? Huh? Maria Maria Maria  what are you thinking these days? But then they are keeping Genie Francis on. I love Genie but I have to ask myself what is Maria Bells long term plan here?
If Soappsychic was in charge.... Gloria, Jeffrey, Lily, Phyllis, Daisy, NuEden & Chloe, would be on a 6 month hiatus.... Grrrrrrrr :-\

From the June 4, 2012 issue of CBS Soaps In Depth (p. 12):

The New Heather Speaks Out!

Vail Bloom's Heather was something of a vixen, while Eden Riegel's version was a bit of a victim--whether it was bombs attacking or her devious little brother!  What should you expect of the character when Jennifer Landon (Gwen, ATWT) debuts in the role on Thursday, June 7?  Read on to find out!

"I had a meeting with Maria Arena Bell [Y&R's executive producer and headwriter], and I got a phone call 30 minutes later from my agent who said, 'Well, I guess that went well,' " Landon shares with a smile.  "I got really excited talking about the character.  I've been here three or four days now, and everyone is focused on story in a really big way!"

Heather returns to Genoa City after she receives a call from interim district attorney Michael, asking her to take a gig as an assistant district attorney.  But settling into her own job didn't go as smoothly for Landon as it might for Heather.  The Emmy winner describes her first day on the set as "schizophrenic" and "confusing."

"I had talked to Maria, and then I'd seen completely different versions of Heather, and then I heard four more," the actress says.  "I felt totally upside-down when I was starting."

Which is certainly understandable, considering the character of Heather has run the gamut of personalities the past few years.  But Landon has a good sense of who the character is now.  "She comes from a middle-class family, and she's got some scrappiness in her.  I don't know if that's going to read [right away]," she warns.  "The first few episodes are going to be kind of a little bit different as I try to make my way and find her.  There's a sassiness, savvy and goodness to her."

From the June 11, 2012 issue of Soap Opera Digest (pp. 10-11):

Comings And Goings

Who's Coming
Jeff Branson (Ronan Malloy):  Last seen in February, the actor will once again reprise the emotionally closed-off fed when Ronan returns from his latest secret mission on June 26.

Lindsay Bushman (Summer Newman):   A teen version of Phyllis and Nick's daughter debuts on June 8.

Who's Going
Yvonna Zima (Daisy Romalotti):   Zima has finished taping and her character will be off the canvas in late June.  Daisy first appeared in October 2009 and went on the run in May 2010.  She returned later in the year pregnant--thanks to a one-nighter with Daniel--and gave birth to Lucy.  The details of Daisy's exit are being kept under wraps, but there are certainly enough people in Genoa City who would want her dead.

From the June 18, 2012 issue of Soap Opera Digest (p. 5):

Branson On Y&R Return

Jeff Branson returns to Y&R on June 26 for another round of Ronan.  The actor, who was last seen leaving Genoa City in February after Diane's murder case was officially closed, shares that this latest reprisal came about just like the previous ones, with a phone call from Executive Producer/Head Writer Maria Arena Bell.

"She said, 'I've got story,' and at that point, our conversation stays just about one thing and that's the story," says Branson.  "I don't want her to get bogged down with my other projects, nor do I want to bore her with that.  So then my people call her people, we work the dates and if everything works out, then it's a go.  Also, at this point, I'm always curious as to what I'm going to be doing exactly because I don't want it to be the same cop rigmarole where you're doing procedural stuff and interrogation scene after interrogation scene.  Going in this time, I asked Maria, 'What are you thinking?' because I want it to be a little more three-dimensional."

Translation:  working on Ronan's mommy issues.  "There is a lot in that Nina storyline that hasn't been scratched yet," Branson points out.  "I really love working with Tricia Cast [Nina].  I feel such genuine, searing emotions every time we work together.  She's aces for me.  Since we haven't really gotten into the Nina/Ronan thing, I told Maria I would like to see a lot more of that this time and she agreed.  She said she could meet me halfway if I could meet her halfway.  And here I am."

Branson reports that he is happy with what he has taped so far.  "I've shared scenes with Jennifer Landon [Heather] and I'm a big fan of her work," he enthuses.  "I think this will bring another dimension to her character, which means that whole thing with Heather and Ronan can be revisited again.  Liz Hendrickson [Chloe] and I have known each other for years and I think the Chloe/Ronan thing is nice, too, because it brings a different side out of Ronan.  It's a chance for him to drop the frosty, crusty exterior he puts on because Chloe really gets under his skin, but in a good way."

Branson, who has a film coming out this year called MoniKa ["Last year for the Emmys, I was platinum blond and this movie will explain that"], is keeping the length of his stay under wraps.  "It's not me playing hard to get," he notes.  "I've been in a situation on a daytime show in the past where I was a contract actor who went through the peaks and valleys for three, four years and that got really stagnant for me.  I know what kind of actor I am when I feel that way and that's not the actor I would want to watch.  But I've been really lucky on this show as far as the people I get to work with so, who knows?  I just like to stay busy."

From the June 25, 2012 issue of Soap Opera Digest (p. 5):

Y&R's Cast Is Back

Last week in Digest, Jeff Branson (Ronan) revealed he was not only looking forward to reprising his character but getting the chance to delve into story with Nina.  That means Tricia Cast is coming back to play the mother who's been kept at arm's length by her long-lost son.  "I'm very pleased with the scripts that I've gotten so far," trills the actress, set to appear again on July 3.  "I can say that I really like what they're doing."

Cast is looking forward to sharing scenes with Branson.  "That guy's a star," she smiles.  "He's so good.  I love, love, love working with him. We work very much alike.  We don't rehearse together a lot.  We both know our lines when we go in, of course, but I think we really enjoy going in cold and seeing what happens.  I feel it's always something pretty good."

Cast, who lives in Nashville, initially had no idea that she would be returning for such a big story.  "They never say what they need me for and I don't ask," she admits.  "I'm always very excited to get the call to come in and work no matter what I'm doing.  I know my scenes are usually with Doug [Davidson, Paul], but I wish I could have worked with Lauralee [Bell, Christine] and Michael [Damian, Danny] when they were in this last time because I miss them.  But whenever I get that call, I'm always excited because it's such a good cast and something I know I will enjoy doing.  I really love working, so whatever it is, I'm happy to come in.  I have no demands or expectations."

When Ronan left town in February, Nina received a note in which he finally said he loved her.  "I was actually a little concerned about that scene because I was hoping they would have done it in person," she explains.  "But when I watched, I realized they knew exactly what they were doing.  I thought it looked very effective."

And Cast is ready for whatever the show has in store for her.  "I could do the commute," she says.  "I'm a great traveler, so flying back and forth is no big deal for me, especially when I get to stay with one of my best friends, Jeanne [Cooper, Katherine].  We're a good pair.  She's very lovely for letting me bunk at her place whenever I'm in town."

Y&R has replaced Alyvia Alyn Lind with McKenna Grace as Sharon and Nick's daughter.  While Lind has managed to juggle her soap gig with recurring roles in primetime before, the 5-year-old is filming the Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore romcom Blended and will last be seen on Tuesday, July 2.  With a big tale in store for Nick's clan, the soap needed to recast.  "McKenna's doing a great job," praises TV mom, Sharon Case.  "She was knocking it out of the park her first day."  Look for Grace's first appearance on Friday, July 12.

This is NOT making me happy!  Y&R is in contract negotiations with Billy Miller, and apparently they're playing hardball by testing possible recasts for the role of Billy.  If he left on his own accord, I'd be sad, but could live with it.  If the show is stupid enough to strong-arm him out of the show, that's just plain maddening!

From the November 16, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps In Depth (pp. 8-9):

Show Lures Popular Vet Out Of Semi-Retirement!

After more than a decade, Jensen Buchanan will be returning to television in the newly created role of Elise Moxley on Y&R.  What can fans expect when the soap-hopper pops up in Genoa City on Friday November 13?  Soaps in Depth spoke with the actress to find out!

Buchanan--who won over fans playing Sarah on OLTL, and Victoria/Marley on AW--says she was thrilled when her agent called her out of the blue to ask whether she'd be interested in developing a recurring character on Y&R.  "They weren't even done talking, and I was like, 'Yes.  Yes, I'll do it!' " recalls the Emmy-nominated star with a laugh.  "The actors are amazing and I love the look of this show, so when I had the opportunity, I just jumped at it.  I didn't mess around at all!"

All that's known about the mysterious Elise thus far is that she's a member of Genoa City's social set.  As for the storyline arc that she'll be involved in, Buchanan proves that, despite her years away from the business, she still can be as cagey as soaps tend to be in dispersing information.  "Let's just say that my character has a complicated history with someone [in town] that shakes up both of our lives!" teases the alumna of GH, where she played Melissa.

Buchanan adds that being back in front of the camera has been wonderfully exhilarating.  "This is what I do, and I know how to do it, so I can't say that I was nervous.  That's not the right word.  I was feeling more excited, and there was a sense of coming home.  I was telling a friend of mine that as soon as I walked onto the studio floor, I was struck with the familiar smells, the lighting and seeing all the crew at work... it was a very comfortable feeling!

The magazine said he'll last appear on GH the first week of January.  I think I read that the actor sees it all as business and would understand if GH decides to recast, but I don't remember seeing anything (yet) about the character being recast.  You guys will  have to let me know how he leaves GH, because I'll have less time for watching TV once school starts up again on Monday.

YR is so full of bs. The actress can hardly be making that much money as a newcomer. But ok, not that I liked this character anyway ,but why do they lie about why actors get let go. ??? :P

Sorry to say that I thought the previous actor was a better fit for the role of Kyle. I can't say that I am upset about this either.Although... Maybe he was let go so that YR could continue to prop up Hunter( Summer). The actress is still not well liked due to the  whole Muhney scandal  so pairing her up with Luca comes across as a desperate attempt to keep interest in her character up with the younger viewers.Just my take on things anyway.

I'm not sure what to make of this.  Check out this article (http://soaps.sheknows.com/the-young-and-the-restless/comings-and-goings/2048/doug-davidson-confirms-yr-firing-after-40-years-playing-paul-williams?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=editorial&utm_content=1767260378) about Doug Davidson (Paul) confirming his exit from Y&R.  A fan asked him if he'd been let go, and he replied on Twitter, "It seems so."  Does that mean dropped to recurring or completely gone?

From the October 1, 2018 issue of CBS Soaps In Depth (p. 10):

Victor's Brother Recast!

It looks like Y&R's Victor is gonna get some brotherly love--or not--when Richard Gleason takes over the role of Matt Miller (played previously by Robert Parucha) on Thursday, September 20, for a four-episode arc.  "I really liked the character," the guest star raves to In Depth.  "There is a wonderful ambivalence to Matt that allows him to be a few different things."

The actor adds that while on the surface, Matt seems to be willing to help his brother, "there are hints for me in the dialogue that perhaps he has more of an agenda.  I presented him as a character who seems extremely affable on the [surface], but he's a lot more clever than he makes out!"

Y&R isn't Gleason's first spin through daytime.  "My first gig on a soap was on OLTL," he reveals.  "I cut my teeth in New York.  I played a photographer, and I had one line to say, which was a huge deal for me!  I also did a stint on AMC, so I have a fondness for daytime dramas!"

As for the future, Gleason believes there might be just enough unresolved family issues to warrant an encore appearance.  "There was clearly a lot of tension between Matt and Victor," he smiles.  "I have a hunch that the show runners are dangling things that may be picked up in the future."

From the April 1, 2019 issue of CBS Soaps In Depth (pp. 8-9):

Ashley's Surprise Homecoming!

The Abbott house gets two visitors this month when Eileen Davidson (Ashley) joins Y&R sister Beth Maitland (Traci) for a brief visit to Genoa City!

Davidson tells Soaps In Depth that she wasn't surprised to get the call from the soap inviting her back for two episodes.  "When I left in September, I let everyone know that I would be open to coming back for a visit," she explains.  "Luckily, I was available for the dates they wanted to book me.  I was happy Y&R took me up on my offer and had Ashley come back for a quick visit!"

As Y&R fans know, Ashley and Jack were on the outs when the beauty swept out of town triumphantly with all the patents to the Jabot products she'd created and plans to launch her own cosmetics company in Paris.  Will Ashley and Jack mend their relationship now?  "When Ashley left, she and Jack had some unfinished business, which will be addressed during her visit," teases the Emmy winner.  "It's always great working with Peter [Bergman, Jack], and I think the fans will really enjoy our scenes.  Ashley has been building a new life for herself in Paris, and her family may be surprised to learn what she's up to!"

"My visit was a lot of fun and went by very fast," she adds.  "I had a great time catching up with people I haven't seen since I left, like our crew and the Abbotts.  It's been six months, but it's a great feeling to be able to jump right into Ashley's shoes and pick up where I left off."

Fans will be glad to know that Davidson hasn't ruled out future returns, either.  "All I can say," she teases, "is Jackie shouldn't get too comfortable, because you never know when Ashley may pay him a visit!"

Maitland kicks off a multi-episode arc beginning Monday, March 25, with Davidson scheduled to air on Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1.

I really have no idea if this is true or if it's an early April Fool's Day joke.  Daytime Confidential is reporting (https://daytimeconfidential.com/2019/03/30/breaking-news-michelle-stafford-in-gina-tognoni-out-at-the-young-and-the-restless) that Gina Tognoni is out as Phyllis and that Michelle Stafford is returning to the role.  Gina Tognoni just released this statement (https://twitter.com/ginatognoni/status/1112148587469815809) on Twitter, but it's a little on the vague side, too.  So I'm in wait-and-see mode.

Edited to say that I thought Gina's statement was on the vague side because she never actually said she's leaving.  But since she's using past tense quite a bit, maybe it's true?  Lots of other media outlets are also reporting on it now.

I've seen lots of fan speculation online because of his current storyline.  However, Eric Braeden retweeted a fan's tweet that said something like, "Say it ain't so.  Don't go away and don't give NE to Adam."  When he retweeted it, he commented something like, "He'll have to get through Daddy dearest.  Adam's just a punk."  Then he went on to praise the acting skills of the guy who plays nuAdam.  So personally, I don't think he's leaving.

I was shocked, too!  That's a pretty major storyline to just suddenly dump if it's true about not recasting.

The role of Summer Newman is being recast with Allison Lanier. (https://soaps.sheknows.com/the-young-and-the-restless/comings-and-goings/628990/young-restless-hunter-king-recast-summer-newman-allison-lanier/)  The article at SoapsSheKnows doesn't mention a first air date.  Also, just a heads up that articles at SoapsSheKnows usually come with a lot of pop-up ads.  Maybe another site will have an article later in the day without all the ads.

Edited:  Daytime Confidential just posted an article (https://daytimeconfidential.com/2022/04/20/allison-lanier-joins-the-young-and-the-restless-as-summer?fbclid=IwAR06a3S1c-M6DXhYDf_fMpAR9ObUfcZzwe1IIHbsgVHyC36btO3cVpRk1hQ) right before I had to head out the door.  It has a picture and states that she'll first air in May (doesn't say a specific date yet).
