As of now, it looks like I'll be dealing with repairs in my apartment. Fortunately, I caught a leaking hot water heater before the whole thing blew, but right now it's a disaster in here. Maintenance accidentally knocked off some part at the bottom and it started pouring water everywhere.

Oh no! Is carpet ruined then? Was your personal stuff out of the way?

Luckily, none of my personal stuff was damaged. I had time to move stuff out of that room before he started the repair. I think the carpet in the closet might be ruined. There's a dehumidifier and some big blower thing running in there for at least 24 hours, maybe longer. Then we'll see from there. Oh, there was also a massive leak outside my door when he wheeled it out, and the welcome mat got ruined with a bunch of rusty residue, so he replaced the mat already. Normally I have some type of seasonal wreath and welcome mat out there. I'm glad it was just my regular one that got ruined and not a prettier one for the holidays.
Oh, and wisely... the downstairs neighbor asked what was going on, and he asked to have his family's water heater replaced since it's old, too. I think that was smart on his part! Might as well avoid a disaster.
