From the March 3, 2009 issue of Soap Opera Digest (pp. 10-11): Gloria's Shocking News On Y&RThings aren't going so well for a jailed Gloria. Her husband, Jeffrey, tells her that he's leaving her for good, and Michael informs her that her trial is in a few days.
"She's putting herself through a self-imposed purgatory," sighs portrayer Judith Chapman. "Jeffrey, of course, isn't helping. He's dumping her
again. This time, he's talking about getting back together with his former girlfriend from Korea and is tired of waiting for Gloria. That compounded with the fact that she has to face Andrew Gibson--the husband of Emma Gibson, the woman who allegedly died from the face cream Gloria tainted--is making her feel really alone. She's going to have to face this guy, and everyone is against her. She feels like she's dead woman walking, that this is it."
A seemingly defeated Gloria decides she needs to confess
everything about doctoring the Jabot moisturizer and pours her heart out to Michael. "It's genuinely heartfelt and Michael is quite surprised," shares Chapman. "He's actually impressed by his mother, for once. But she is sincere. In many ways, Gloria is driven by the karma thing and she's hoping she can turn her life around. But then Michael tells her that she's not responsible for Emma Gibson's death; Emma died from food poisoning or an extreme allergic reaction to food. Which is exactly what Gloria has been saying for all these years [
laughs]!"
Needless to say, Glo is thrilled. "The news is stunning, wonderful and uplifting," gushes the actress. "But it doesn't quite sink in at first. She's not on cloud nine so much because she's just so shocked. She's like, 'Say it again, Michael. Say it again.' It's like music and magic to her ears hearing that she may actually see an end to this very long saga in her life."
Later in court, Heather is forced to acknowledge Paul and Michael's findings regarding Emma Gibson. "Heather is out to fry her, but she doesn't have a pot to you-know-what in when it comes to her case," crows Chapman. "She has nothing that can hold any water. And Michael, of course, is brilliant when it comes to defending his mother. Gloria's feeling pretty good and sees hope for her life and her relationship with Jeffrey."
The judge, however, is not amused by Gloria's antics and lays into her for what she did. And decides to make a ruling on her case right then and there....
