From the July 12, 2011 issue of Soap Opera Weekly (p. 4):

Sharon And Sam Have Sex!

Sam and Sharon fall into bed, but following their passionate lovemaking, afterglow doesn't set in.  That's because, as Sam sleeps next to her, Sharon is consumed with conflicting feelings.  "They came together in a moment of vulnerability for both of them," explains Co-Head Writer Scott Hamner.  She has reservations that, first of all, are understandable and, second of all, are to her credit.  She is hesitant to get involved with Sam because of all her baggage.  This causes her to take stock of her life."

To that end, Sharon starts writing a soul-bearing letter to Sam that recounts her tempestuous history.  "It's all about trying to let him into her world, even as she reflects about her life in a way that's going to help the audience discover a lot about Sharon," says Hamner.  "The letter to him is going to be a window into her that viewers who have been watching the show for a long time are going to enjoy because we really are going back to the beginning of Nick and Sharon's relationship.  Then, we're going to trace it all the way to present time so the audience will see some really iconic moments, and viewers who are not as long-standing get to learn the history of Sharon as she gains insight into herself."

After finishing the missive, Sharon tears it up and returns to the barn, where she starts packing.  Notes Hamner, "She's feeling that it would be unfair to Sam to impose all of her problems and complications, but she's not eager to go."

Sam shows up and is upset to find Sharon about to leave.  She tells him that sleeping together was a mistake, but Sam insists they can make a relationship work despite her past.  "She realizes that Sam represents hope for the future and the belief in another chance at life," says Hamner.  "So, she decides to stay."

The hunky vet then announces it's time that Sharon leave the barn behind and move into the main house with him, and she happily agrees.  "The struggle between her head and her heart is resolved in that moment of time," shares Hamner.  "She's now at a place where she can say yes to a new and unexpectedly brighter future."

Meanwhile, back in Genoa City, Adam makes a shocking discovery about Sharon.  Teases Hamner, "Things are about to get complicated."
