From the February 24, 2009 issue of Soap Opera Weekly (p. 5): A Closer Look: Kayby Janet Di LauroThe quest to prove Kay's identity gets sidetracked this week, when Kay is kidnapped by Clint and Roger. Jeanne Cooper discusses the perilous turn of events.
Weekly: Is Kay abducted from Murphy's trailer?Cooper: Yes. It's a shock and a surprise. You don't see anything other than Clint coming in and saying, "Hello. It's me again." Then, bingo, Kay is in this hotel room with Clint, Roger and Annie.
Weekly: Does Kay recognize Clint?Cooper: No, she doesn't. But she begins to recognize the situation later on.
Weekly: Kay panics when she realizes how serious her situation is. What happens?Cooper: When Clint and Roger kidnap her, they think she's Kay. They're thinking big ransom, big bucks. But Annie, who's been reading Kay's book, starts saying, "This isn't Katherine Chancellor. It's Marge." Kay realizes she could be killed, because Marge is of no use to them whatsoever.
Weekly: Later, Esther and Roger learn the DNA results proved Kay is a fraud. When Clint finds out, he tells Kay. How does she react?Cooper: Kay doesn't believe him. She says it has to be a mistake, that someone's lying or someone in the lab mixed things up. She dismisses it and says it's not true. She goes into hysteria over this, because the negative results mean she is in big trouble. She could be killed.
Weekly: Annie wants Clint to get rid of Kay, but Clint says they need to keep "Marge" on ice until Roger marries Esther. What's the plan?Cooper: Well, now what they have to do is take advantage of Esther. Through their machinations, they have to get Esther married to Roger, so they can steal the family jewels and fortune.
Weekly: Meanwhile, Kay has a memory of Clint that only she would remember. What is it?Cooper: As Kay's trying to piece it all together, she begins to remember Clint being the one who abducted her years ago. Clint says, "Okay. Prove to me that you are Katherine." In her anger and frustration, Kay starts grasping at straws. Little by little, Clint will give something away, and she starts grabbing at it. Kay mentions having an appendectomy when Clint kidnapped her before, and that she has the scar to prove it. But Clint notes that Marge had one, too. Clint mentions something that connects with Rex, and Kay says Rex offered him money to stay away from his daughter, Gina. Then, while looking at Annie's red earrings swing back and forth, Kay blurts out, "Diamond earrings." She tells Clint about the diamond earrings he bought Gina for her birthday, and how he said he was making payments on them. That's when Clint says, "Oh, my God!" He realizes he is holding Katherine Chancellor. She's alive. Then, the race is on.
Weekly: The race for what?Cooper: The race to get Roger and Esther married, so they can get the Chancellor fortune before the truth comes out.
