The Game Playing On Y&R Spins Out Of Control!

Kay Has A Stroke
During the arbitration about who should own Jabot, Tucker points out that Katherine didn't have the company's best interest at heart or else she would have sold it on the open market for a better price than what she paid.  "Katherine has made this argument to the court that it was all above board because no one would've paid more than she did," explains Co-Head Writer Scott Hamner.  "But Jack steps forward and says that if she had truly put the company up for sale, he would've bought it at more than a premium price.  This undermines Katherine's legal argument, which enabled her to grab Jabot from Tucker."

The judge rules in Tucker's favor and his mother loses Jabot.  In the courtroom, Katherine confronts both men and blasts Jack for dishonoring his father.  "Jack has feelings of triumph mixed with some regret about this," assesses Hamner.  "The truth is, Katherine was also duplicitous, so there's a bit of the pot calling the kettle black here.  Still, Jack feels some pain in having to maneuver in this way.  Even though Kay is in the wrong here, she is really going for his most vulnerable spot when she says that about John, so it's hurtful."

Katherine suddenly collapses and is rushed to the hospital unconscious, where it's determined that she has had a stroke.  The patient is then hooked up to a ventilator and is deemed to be in critical condition.  Kay's loved ones rally around her, including Tucker, but a protective Neil and Devon order McCall to stay away.  "Tucker tells everyone that it was simply a legal proceeding and that he never expected this to happen, but secretly he feels somewhat responsible for pushing Katherine to the brink," opines Stephen Nichols (Tucker).

Jill holds a vigil at Kay's bedside.  Notes Hamner, "As much as they argue and fight, they truly are family and they do love each other.  Jill is going to be beside herself with worry about Kay."

Since there's a chance that the old girl might not make it, her longtime lawyer, Mitchell Sherman, is called in, which leads to....

Tucker Finds Out Devon Is His Son
"Mitchell has to intervene here because issues of Katherine's wishes regarding whether or not to use extraordinary methods to keep her alive must be determined," explains Hamner.

Jill discusses with the attorney the fact that Kay changed her will to include Devon, then sees that Tucker has heard their conversation.  "While pressing Jill for the reasons why Katherine would do that, Tucker reads that Jill is not telling the whole truth," says Nichols.  "Tucker has a flashback to that moment when he and Devon were told by the technician that they are both AB negative [blood type].  Then coming out of it, he grills Jill more.  He knows her well enough to know when he has hit upon the truth.  He says, 'Devon is Katherine's grandson and my son.  It's the truth. I can see it in your face.' "

When Jill refuses to confirm Tucker's allegation, he storms away and returns to his penthouse.  "He is in a state of shock and needs to talk to someone he can trust," notes Nichols.  "He calls Sofia to meet him.  Tucker knows that Ashley is overwhelmed at the moment with Abby.  Sofia is the only other person close enough to him to bounce such heavy news off of.  Tucker also knows Sofia has a direct line to the Winters family and might be able to offer him some insight into Devon."

When Sofia arrives, Tucker announces that Devon is his long-lost son.  "Sofia warns Tucker to hold off telling Devon," relays Nichols.  "She thinks it may disrupt Devon's life with his adoptive family and hurt him more than help him."

Will Tucker heed the well-meaning advice?  "Tucker feels that he should tell Devon immediately," declares Nichols.  "Because of Tucker's own experience, he believes that knowing your roots and who you come from is vital.  He wants Devon to know that 'As soon as I knew, I did not hesitate.  I came running.' "

As Tucker ponders his next move, there's another loose end he needs to deal with and that is how Katherine knew about his connection to Devon.  Uh-oh.

Cane Sees Billy
Upon learning the news that Katherine has been felled by a stroke, Billy feels even more helpless.  "He's climbing the walls in that trailer," points out Hamner.  "This has been such an ordeal for Billy to be in hiding during this time that the people who he loves and cares about, Delia and Katherine, are in very serious circumstances.  The helplessness and frustration that he feels is really unbearable, so he's having a tremendous struggle."

Finally, Billy sneaks into the hospital and, after donning some scrubs and a surgical mask, slips into Katherine's room, where she still lies unconscious.  Sighs Hamner, "He pours his heart out to her, which encapsulates a lot of what he's feeling and been going through since he came back to Genoa City."

As Billy leaves, Cane suddenly appears.  "Cane is at the hospital to see Kay," says Daniel Goddard (Cane).  "He catches a glimpse of someone walking onto the elevator in scrubs and he thinks that person looks like Billy.  Cane decides to check out his suspicion."

Ashby heads right over to Billy's trailer.  "Cane knocks on the door, but nobody answers," sets up Goddard.  "So he starts banging on the door and yells, 'I know you're in there, Billy!  I saw you at the hospital!  Open the door!'  Cane is ready to kick his way in, so Billy has no choice but to open the door."

It's not a happy reunion.  "Cane says, 'Your daughter is sick, what are you doing here?' "  Goddard shares.  Then he figures out that Billy is the bone marrow donor.  Billy asks Cane to keep the secret, so now Cane has to decide if he's going to get involved because he doesn't want to lie to Lily anymore.  This puts Cane in a very interesting situation."

Sums up Hamner, "The many weeks of these stories are reaching a crescendo in a very dramatic and emotionally charged way."

Abby Is Arrested
The novelty pillows discovered in Diane's hotel suite continue to pique Ronan's interest.  After reading a page out of the victim's diary, Ronan realizes that  a pillow emblazoned with "Girls Just Want To Have Funds" is hinting at Abby.  The cop rips the pillow open and finds a flash drive that turns out to be Abby's taped confession of running down Tucker.

"This is the flash drive that Diane had threatened Abby with ages ago," reminds Hamner.  "Then Abby began to think that it was possible that Diane was bluffing and didn't actually have it, but now it's turned up, planted in this pillow."

Later, Ashley and Abby return to Tucker's penthouse, where Ronan is waiting with a video presentation starring Miss Newman.  "This is definitely unorthodox for him," acknowledges Hamner.  "When the ladies see the video playing on the TV, they are shocked to find out that Ronan now has Abby's confession."

Ronan hauls Abby away for questioning, while Ashley frantically summons Victor.  The worried parents show up at the police station, where Ronan spells out the dire reality of their daughter's situation.  "This has been Abby, Ashley and Victor's worst fear for some time and now it's been realized," says Hamner.  "So it looks bad for all of them and gives Ronan a tremendous amount of leverage.  Their story has been a lot about withholding information and there's been a very consistent power struggle between Ronan and these suspects."

Surprisingly, Ronan lets Abby go--for now.  "He wants to see what they do," reasons Hamner.  After Ronan has an officer tail the trio, he finally shows up at the GCAC with Spencer and formally arrests Abby.  "To say Victor is not happy is an understatement," Hamner chuckles.  "If Ronan weren't in such a position of authority, to put it bluntly, his a$$ would be grass.  Victor knows that Ronan is being very opportunistic and has an agenda in arresting Abby that goes deeper than just wanting to prosecute her for this crime."

As Abby is being booked, Ashley arrives with Tucker.  "This is a real pivotal moment in the relationship between Ashley, Tucker and Abby," says Hamner.  "Abby has been unrelenting in her determination to break up the marriage between Tucker and Ashley, and to put him in jail for Diane's murder.  So Tucker has every reason in the world to see that Abby goes to jail for almost killing him.  What he will do next is going to have big consequences."
