Long Live The Abbotts!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It seems that TPTB at Y&R have finally come to their senses and decided to repair a glaring error by resurrecting the Abbott family. John Abbott marrying Glo was the best Abbott storyline in years. What did Y&R do? They killed John off. The rest of the Abbott clan scattered, leaving Jack to contend with the scheming Glo, both of them now outcasts from Jabot.
We’ve seen the Abbott clan bonding over a breakfast meeting in NYC. The glamorous Ashley Abbott may or may not spice up the stale Jabot storyline, but she could be wildly successful at cheering up the despondent Victor Newman. Abby will surely be her ace card with Victor which puts Ashley in the position of winning this round over Nikki.
Then there’s the two new fresh faces at Jabot—John’s granddaughter, Colleen, and John’s son, Billy.
Colleen has had little to do with herself lately except insult people and drop her drawers. Making Colleen the Fresh Face of Jabot is an inspired idea for inserting an Abbott family member back in Jabot and possibly saving the character of Colleen. Since Colleen has become Ms. Nasty Mouth prone to jumping into bed with the next available guy, she should fit in well with her scheming uncles—a true Abbott.
The latest Billy Abbott is the most exciting addition to Y&R and Jabot in years. The silver-tongued, handsome playboy owes big brother Jack big-time. He has another brother, Cane, giving him an excited welcome. It’ll be interesting to see if Billy will be loyal to either brother, or is he really just looking out himself? I really want to like this new Billy!
That leaves the one huge disappointment in the Abbott saga—the endless appearances by John the ghost. This is a soap, people! Either resurrect John, not too hard to do in soap land, or kill the ghost off! Let’s be done with this big mistake and move forward!
